THE COVID-19 HEALTHCARE COALITION: A MODEL FOR PANDEMIC RESPONSE

In response to COVID-19, MITRE built an enduring standard for collaboration, quickly convening the world’s leading organizations to combat the global outbreak of coronavirus.

When the worst global pandemic in a century interrupted life as we know it, more than 1,000 companies made the public interest a top priority.

The COVID-19 Healthcare Coalition, co-chaired by MITRE and the Mayo Clinic, continues to deliver on its mission to protect U.S. populations and preserve the healthcare delivery system using data-driven, real-time insights to improve outcomes.

The coalition mobilized talent and resources to help the nation respond to the pandemic, delivering 675,000 FDA-certified respirator masks to New York City when half of the city’s hospitals were in critical need of personal protective equipment.

Members quickly pooled resources to develop tools that provide data-driven insights to government and business leaders. Critical insights from stakeholders support ongoing updates to tools like the Decision Support Dashboard, which tracks trends and criteria for easing restrictions and reopening communities.

Built on collaboration and innovation, the coalition is also working to support vaccine research and treatment. Members including Mayo Clinic, Michigan State University, Amazon, and others are supporting the country’s largest medical study on COVID-19 patients receiving convalescent plasma treatments. The coalition also completed a national survey of telehealth use in November, finding that 60% of clinicians said that telehealth has improved the health of their patients.

Guided by MITRE, the COVID-19 Healthcare Coalition is transforming pandemic response with new tools and technologies to prepare for future outbreaks.

Creating new possibilities and discovering innovative ways to solve global challenges, MITRE continues to lead the nation through its most urgent crises.

The COVID-19 Healthcare Coalition has broken barriers in pandemic response from vaccine development to informing social policies.
