Artificial Intelligence is undeniably valuable. AI catches countless fraud attempts. It empowers unmanned machines to support people in dull, dirty, and dangerous situations. And it enables the military, Intelligence Community, and our critical infrastructure to wade through vast amounts of data to make us safer.

Yet, while there’s a great deal of enthusiasm—and some hype—for its potential, there are valid concerns about its vulnerabilities. AI can be fragile. Stickers can cause autonomous cars to misread signs, face recognition systems can make mistakes about race, and more. In many ways, AI is at the same stage the internet was in the mid-1990s: essential, but full of barely understood risks. Then, security was an afterthought, rather than a core design component—and we paid the price for decades.

While industry generates most AI technological advances, the U.S. government has a vital role in acquiring, regulating, and applying them. And it must constantly balance the desire for deterring our adversaries and safeguarding our nation through advancements in health and transportation with the caution of not relying upon flawed or unsafe technology.

We bring world-class technical expertise in emerging AI research and engineering and a multidisciplinary approach. And we accelerate fielding solutions, like applying our deep experience with cyber threat-based defense to AI red teaming and finding and tracking mobile targets in contested environments.
